Kamala Khan is a normal girl from Jersey City until she is unexpectedly empowered with amazing gifts. This comic book present several questions: Who truly is the new Ms. Marvel? Is she a teenager? Is she a Muslim? Is she an Inhuman?
As Kamala discovers the dangers of her newborn powers, she also discovers a secret behind them. Is Kamala prepared to handle these colossal new gifts? Or will the mass of the legacy before her be too much to handle? Kamala has no the answer or idea about this questions. But either way she is coming to New York. This book is a creation from the acclaimed writer G. Willow Wilson and recognized artist Adrian Alphona.
Kamala is a little different of the standard super hero, she is a teenager, and she is also Pakistani-American and Muslim. However, this new Ms. Marvel is very similar to her fans. Kamala Khan feels she is out of place in her own world, she wishes to be more accepted and more popular, she feels misunderstood by her family and by society. The details of some of those conflicts might be a bit different, but the conflicts themselves are common. In the other hand Kamala shows a funny personality which combine perfectly whit her super hero side. This is a very common aspect in the Marvel characters.
The line story of “Ms. Marvel Volume 1: No Normal” presents to Kamala trying to deal with her strange new powers, trying to keep them secret, trying to come to a decision who to tell about them and who to keep them secret from, and also facing her first trials by fire. Despite of her internal conflicts Kamala saves her friends Zoe from drowning, she also rescues her other friend Bruno from a stick-up, and makes repetitive attempts to rescue Bruno’s brother from the control of the teenage minions of a new villain. In this way Kamala become in a new Ms. Marvel.
